Our history in Ghana stretches back 10 years. We have built lasting relationships between Stand International and Silver Stag Scotland and the Ghanaian communities we work in.

Education

We aim to prevent and eradicate child labour through access to education for school age children. We are currently providing scholarships for 41 children in the regions of Ada and Wa. We help children with the cost of books, school uniforms and the cost of lunch at school. We also run education programmes for children to support learning in a fun environment. Our aim is to grow to work with around 200 children by the end of 2024.

We also believe we should never stop learning, whatever our age. We support lifelong learning for people in Ghana and in Scotland. We work in partnership with Stand International, a Scottish charity, hosting learner visits to Ghana to complete community projects.

Working with farming communities in Ghana

In 2019 we set up the Chamber of Farmers Ghana to support subsistence farmers with improving their productivity.ย  Many children do not attend school because subsistence farming families face a stark choice between purchasing basic items for living or paying for the necessary costs of sending their children to school. We believe that when farming families have more income, they will feel more able to send their children to school.ย ย

Social Enterprise

To create sustainable change, we have set up social enterprises in Ghana and in Scotland. We have a farm in the Sogakope area of Ghana and a food and gift retail business in the United Kingdom with award winning products.ย  The profits from these businesses fund our scholarships and provide good jobs for local people.ย
